In 1998 Gianni Campagna acquired
the world famous Sartoria Domenico Caraceni label. Founded in 1928,
Caraceni created the images of many actors including, Tyrone Powers,
Humphry Bogart, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant and Sophia Loren. The Caraceni
label is also famous for dressing generations of The Kings of Greece
and Italy, The Price of Whales, Prince Rainier of Monaco, and Onassis.
The history of Caraceni characterizes the current collection. Jacket
lengths vary from fairly short and almost reaching the seat, as once
worn by Fred Astaire, or long, "Hollywood" style like those
worn by Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster, with hip hugging characteristics.
Caraceni is a return to the mens style of the 1950s. A
man conveying great self-confidence, but at the same time radiating
an irresistible charm while nonchalantly stating his reassuring masculinity.
The Domenico Caraceni line creates about 1,000 hand made garments
a year. |
